Sundown Sound creates eclectic, heartfelt music channeling diverse influences of acoustic rock, jazz, blues, Americana, and progressive alternative music. Thought-provoking, socially-conscious lyrics explore themes of spirituality, love, and beauty. Sundown Sound at root is a feeling, one that creates a bond with their audience. Hailing from South Florida, the band is comprised of songwriters Mike Matthews and Daniel Wolpin on vocals and guitar, Ike Rodriguez on fretless bass and backing vocals, and Manuel Pila on percussion. In these days of computer-generated musicmaking, Sundown Sound is on a mission to prove that homemade music is still viable and vital.
Daniel Wolpin transplanted to South Florida 25 years ago from coastal Virginia. Originally relocating to study at UM, he grew roots in the area and now calls Coconut Grove home. Daniel started writing songs, singing, and playing guitar in high school bands. Music evolved from an interest into a passion. He discovered and married his muse many moons ago, and she continues to inspire him daily. Moonlighting as a member of Sundown Sound is what turns his musical gears.
Mike Matthews has lived in the Miami area for most of his life, playing guitar and singing in various local bands throughout the years and more recently working as an environmental educator and university instructor. His musical resume includes writing songs and playing guitar for such local acts as Franklin’s Wheel, Ana Kanpa, Talisman, and more.
Manuel Pila is a Miami-born drummer, percussionist, songwriter and radio producer. Manuel is founder of the world fusion band The Baboons and co-host of the long-running radio show “Global Gumbo with Majica & Mano P” on Miami's Public Radio International affiliate, 88.9FM WDNA.
Isaac Rodriguez is a South Florida native and local musician heavily influenced by Blues and Rock music. Primarily a singer and electric guitar player, he also enjoys playing fretless bass, loves all types of music, and is always ready to play.
The band released the 6-song EP, "One," in early 2019. Available in both CD and digital formats, "One" features all-original compositions from the band highlighting eclectic influences in an acoustic rock format.
Sundown Sound can currently be found playing various venues in South Florida and are beginning preliminary work on their next release, tentatively scheduled for mid-2020 release.
